Sarah Cooney is the Director of Volunteer & Outreach Services.  She is responsible for the oversight and enrichment of YC’s 400+ teen volunteers, adult volunteers, and school and community groups who assist at year-round programs.  Sarah works to recruit, train, pair, supervise, and recognize the compassionate and dedicated volunteers who serve as the heart and soul of Youth Challenge.  She is also responsible for orchestrating YC’s outreach efforts, from disability awareness field trips and adapted sports experiences for local schools to sharing our mission with the greater community.  Along with other program staff, Sarah plans and implements YC programming and assists participants with personal needs.  In tandem with fellow program staff, she works to develop programming and ensure the continued quality of Youth Challenge activities.

Sarah is a former Youth Challenge volunteer herself, having assisted at programs while a student at Magnificat High School, and has been a member of the YC staff since the fall of 2005.  She is a ’05 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and received her B.A. in English and Anthropology.  She is a proud member of the Forum of Volunteer Administrators and serves on FVA’s Board as the Communications Committee Co-Chair.  She was also the 2016 recipient of the FVA Volunteer Administrator of the Year Award.
