Lisa McCafferty Friel is the YC Alumni Engagement & DEI Manager. She is responsible for overseeing the ACT (Alumni Community Team) Academy, which focuses on career and community opportunities for young alum through project-based learning experiences, peer support, and curriculum developed by YC alum. She is committed to empowering, supporting, and fostering growth in YC alumni through outreach, advocacy, social events, and wellness programs.

Lisa joined YC in 2006 as the Program Director and Outreach Coordinator. She was a member of the YC Summer Staff and van driver from 1996-2000. Her YC journey began in 1993 as a teen volunteer, and she has always considered Youth Challenge one of her favorite places in the world.

Lisa received a Master’s in Special Education from Cleveland State University in 2012. She is a licensed K-12 mild/moderate intervention specialist and is highly qualified in teaching science, math, and reading. She graduated from Xavier University in 2000 with a B.S. in Biology and Peace Studies. Lisa has taught overseas in Micronesia through the Jesuit Volunteers International program, and locally at Lawrence School and Lakewood Catholic Academy through Lakewood City Schools. Lisa coaches CYO/Rec cross country, basketball, and baseball. She is a mentor and tutor to refugee students, and she coordinates service opportunities for members of St. Luke parish. Lisa lives in Lakewood with her husband Bobby, and their children, Greg, Brendan, and Lucy.
