Laurel Sweet first joined YC in 2000-2005 as the Volunteer Coordinator.  In 2013, Laurel came back to join Youth Challenge and is currently the Program and Outreach Coordinator. Laurel is responsible for creating and implementing adaptive recreational activities with the use of therapeutic recreation procedures and adaptive equipment.  She is also responsible for developing YC’s outreach efforts, disability awareness field trips and adapted sports experiences for local schools and agencies.  Her goal is to enhance the positive culture of Youth Challenge’s mission with all of the communities in the Greater Cleveland area and beyond.  

Laurel received her Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation with a minor in Psychology and American Sign Language from Kent State University.  Laurel has taught Beginner ASL to many young people including the volunteers at Youth Challenge. She has also assisted in coaching/mentoring the Girls on the Run program, a Jewish Community Sports program in PA, and the “Parma Cuties” baton group.  Laurel lives in Bay Village with her husband Bobby, daughter Norah, and loving pets Honey and Bunker.
